The Matera Sassi, the Moors and the Rock Churches Park, the Small Dolomites Park

Guided tour with minivan assistance and your own bicycle

Tour of high technical difficulty for the true lovers of off-road cycling, developed and led by our guide / athlete on a mix of white paths, tracks and single tracks.

Overview

A week in MTB to discover a region where nature and culture have been coexisting, for millennia, in an unbreakable union.

Starting from the Sassi of Matera, pedalling through the Murgia plateau, we will transfer you in the heart of the region to enter into its natural treasure chest: the Park of Gallipoli Cognato and Small Dolomites ", made of sandstone mountains and dense forests of oak.

A mix of off-road routes and forest dirt between peaks and small towns to live the authentic South of Italy, where it is still possible to live the atmosphere of a time gone by ...

The silence, the green, the unspoiled nature make you believe to make a trip back in time.

Day 1

SASSI and  MURGECCHIA TOUR (max 20 km)
Arrival in Matera and hotel accommodation. Welcome drink and introducing of the tour with the delivery of technical and touristic kit (maps, profiles, etc...). In the early afternoon meeting with the guide for a tour on foot (or by bike) in the Sassi distict (the old town). Head on cycling to the Murgia plateaux. A gentle slope leads us on the edge of the canyon on the Gravina torrent, opening on the enchanted view of the old town. Between rocks and gorges apparently hostile, you can visit the Murgecchia rock village, with its caves and churches.
Return to the city. Dinner at a typical restaurant in the Sassi and overnight stay.

Day 2

BETWEEN MATERA AND THE MURGIA PARK (about 50 km)
Starting from the historic centre the route extends within the Murgia Park, including caves, gorges, ancient rock churches and sheepfolds on single tracks and paths overlooking the canyon of the Gravina river.
Picnic and back to town, passing the remains of ancient caves. Dinner on your own.
Route on dirt (rocks, gravel).
Medium to high difficulty

Day 3

The S. GIULIANO OASIS (about 52 km)
From the city centre, and almost without touching the asphalt, we reach the San Giuliano Lake, a peaceful oasis of wildlife and destination for migratory species coming from Africa.
The path winds in a surreal environment of clay gullies, narrow and challenging paths to reach the Igino hill, plateau from which you can enjoy a 360 ° view over the region. After a difficult descent you reach the Crypt of the Original Sin with the oldest frescoes in the area. Lunch and return to Matera in the early afternoon. Dinner on your own.
Route on dirt (gravel, clay, rocks)
Medium to high difficulty

Day 4

MIGLIONICO (about 40 km)
In the early morning, after breakfast, transfer to Miglionico by our minivan. This is a small village about 20 km. from Matera.
