Matera by bike Level: easy Distance: 20...30 km Visit the Park of Rock Churches on the Murgia Plateaux, where it is possible to enjoy the wonderful view of the old town. You can visit Rock Churches and old farms along this route.

San Giuliano Lake and the Crypt of the Original Sin () Level: medium/easy Distance: 25 / 40 Km Moving from the Sassi district you will go downhill to the Lake, along the beautiful quiet road. Nice to take your picnic on lake shore. Not far from the Lake we suggest the visit of the Crypt of the Original Sin, known as the Sistina Chapel of Rock Churches, one of oldest cave with frescoes of Southern Italy. (entrance € 8,00 per person)

Matera, Montescaglioso, Metaponto Level: medium / easy Distance: 40 / 60 km Moving from Matera, skirting the Murgia Park, you reach the Medieval village of Montescaglioso. Very interesting here the visit of the historical center and the Benedictine Abbey. From here you can pedal towards Ionian Sea and visit the archaeological digs in Metaponto or staying on the sandy beach.

The Old Via Appia route Level: medium Distance: 60..70 km Leaving Matera you reach the village of Miglionico, where you can visit the medieval Castle and have a picnic in one of the local bakeries. visita al Castello del Malconsiglio e pausa pranzo in uno dei panifici del paese. Ritorno a Matera passando per il vecchio tracciato della Via Appia.

Bread and Focaccia: Matera to Altamura Level: medium Distance: about 50 kms Out of Basilicata you go to Altamura (Puglia), with its beautiful historical center and the wonderful Cathedral (built by Frederick II). Once you are there we suggest you the tasting of the local bread and focaccia (a local tasty pizza). Back to Matera pedalling along the Iesce Valley.
