Independent arrival to Bari airport and transfer to Matera by minivan; get settled in at your hotel and lunch on your own. In the afternoon, guided tour of the Sassi, the UNESCO world heritage site, and the historical centre. Welcome drink, with presentation of the tour and distribution of the information. Dinner in one of the typical restaurants in the Sassi. Overnight stay.

"Focaccia": the Rupestrian Church Park - about 25 kms After visiting a wood-burning bakery where you will taste the special bread and focaccia made with local hard grain, you will start pedalling with a light loop around Matera. You will stop at the Park of Rupestrian Churches, with its beautiful view over the Sassi, and have your picnic. Free afternoon to visit Matera. Dinner on your own. Overnight stay.

the Bradano Valley - about 50 kms Breakfast and departure following the road that skirts the Park of Rupestrian Churches. Pedalling through the Bradano valley you come to a typical Farm, which has been turned into an agritourism. Relax in the swimming pool surrounded by orchards and olive groves. Dinner and overnight stay.

Relax in Magna Graecia - about 27 / 50 kms max Today you deserve a relaxing day on the farm. You can pedal to the sea to visit the Archaeological Park of Metaponto, an ancient Greek Colony established in the 7th century B.C. set among vineyards and orange trees. Pythagoras founded one of his schools in this rich and important town. After this visit you will spend the rest of the day at the seaside having a picnic on the beach. Back to the holiday farm for dinner and overnight stay. Free choice of route with minimum distance 25 km.

Along the Bradano river valley - about 42 kms Back cycling along the Bradano River you will reach the Montescaglioso hill with a panoramic slow ascent to reach the village. The beautiful Benedictine Abbey dating back to medieval times is well worth a visit. Picnic on your own with local products (focaccia, fruit, cheese). Dinner and overnight stay at a holiday farm located at the foot of Montescaglioso. Relax in the swimming pool.

Rest Day Today you have time to enjoy a circular cycle in the valley or relax in the swimming pool. Cycle option n. 1: The Ancient Via Appia Riding along the ancient "Via Appia" (an old Roman road), you will pass through the charming village of Miglionico, with a nice view on the valley. Back to your holiday farm for relax and dinner. Overnight stay. Length: Approx. 35 km
Grade: Easy Cycle Option n. 2: San Giuliano Lake and the Matera hills This route will take you along the wonderful, deserted road around the San Giuliano Lake, a peaceful natural oasis, the destination of many migratory birds from Africa. We suggest you take some time to enjoy bird watching, spotting grey herons, cormorants, storks and fish hawks. Optional stop to the Crypt of Original Sin (with the oldest frescoes in the area). Back to your holiday farm for relax and dinner. Overnight stay. Length: Approx. 40 km

Back to Matera - about 25 kms. The route will take you back to Matera skirting again the Park of Rock Churches. After 12 km. you’ll leave your bikes to reach the Gravina canyon walking. Picnic in the caves of Cristo La Selva, an amazing Rupestrian village in the hearth of the Park. Head on to Matera and get situated at your hotel. Free afternoon. Farewell dinner and overnight stay.
